Description

In October 2025, I had the pleasure of being a speaker for the third time at a Google Developer Group (GDG) event — this one organized by the university chapter.

My session, titled “Building Agentic AI-Powered Solutions,” was designed to help participants prepare in depth for the upcoming OpenHack hackathon.

The talk guided participants through key concepts such as LLM inference, transformer architecture, RAG and agentic design patterns, and included a review of tools for rapid development in a hackathon environment.

The audience included around 70 international students and developers passionate about AI and software architecture.

The talk's brief:

Get ready for OpenHack 2025 with an in-depth session where you’ll explore how to design and build Agentic AI-powered applications that think, plan and act autonomously.
You’ll gain practical insights into how modern AI systems work, what tools to use and how to accelerate your development workflow to turn ideas into working prototypes in hours, not weeks.

Led by Lucian Gruia, Head of Data Science & AI (Global) and Head of Engineering (Romania) at Ciklum, this session brings you insider knowledge from one of the global leaders in AI engineering, GenAI adoption and agentic architectures.

What you'll learn

This developer-focused session is fast-paced, practical and action-driven. Through analogies, live demos and real examples, you’ll understand the core principles behind modern intelligent systems and learn to use the AI ecosystem’s most powerful open-source tools.

Topics include:

  • LLM inference & orchestration patterns (OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face, Ollama)
  • Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and hybrid search pipelines
  • Agentic AI architectures: perception, reasoning, and autonomous actions
  • MCP (Model Context Protocol) and A2A (Agent-to-Agent) communication
  • Knowledge graphs, vector databases and memory systems
  • AI-enabled SDLC and GenAI code assistants (Copilot, Cody, Cursor, v0.dev)
  • Multi-modal reasoning (text, image, code and audio inputs)
  • Open-source frameworks & repos (LangChain, CrewAI, LlamaIndex, AutoGen, Swarm, etc.)
  • Best practices for scalability, security and observability in AI solutions

Whether you’re new to AI development or already experimenting with agents and RAG systems, you’ll leave with a clear mental model, practical tools and ready-to-use templates for your OpenHack projects.

During the workshop, I demonstrated live coding and shared use cases I encountered while building the enterprise-scale Agentic Framework at Ciklum.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the meetup, especially the engaging questions during the Q&A session and the quality networking afterward.

I also appreciated the commitment of GDG to organizing such professional events, with a big shoutout to Andra, to whom I’m thankful for the invitation. It was a great opportunity to expand my network within the Romanian software development community, where I had the pleasure of meeting many intelligent and inspiring individuals.
